Nearby visit to Wat Aham, famous for the ancient interior of the sim and roof ornamentation. Continue to Wat Xieng Thong, or “The Temple of Golden City” whose origin can be dated back to 1560 when King Setthatilat built it on the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan River. With many ornate chapels, the entire temple complex represents the real gem of traditional Laotian architecture. Stroll down the main street (or Wat Street) of Luang Prabang. If time available, stop at other fascinating temples such as Wat Siboun Heuang, Wat Si Moungkhoun, Wat Sop and Wat Sene. Then proceed to the former Royal Palace which is now the National Museum (close on Tuesday). It was built by French as a royal residence to the last monarchy of Laos. Then to Wat Mai, built in 1796, magnificent in its five-tiered roof and wall paintings that depict the daily village life of the Laotian people. Last but not least, visit Mount Phousi for sunset. It is a hill lying in the center of the city where there is a small temple of Phousi on top. In late afternoon, visit Mount Phousi for sunset - a splendid landmark for having a magnificent view of the entire town and the nearby rivers.
